Facebook Timeline to automatically roll out

Businesses 'still getting to grips with social media marketing'

Facebook Timeline to automatically roll out

Every Facebook user will soon have their profile changed to the Timeline feature, with seven days set to be given to people to hide content they do not want to be seen.

The blog announcement by engineering manager at the social media website Paul McDonald said the rollout of the Timeline will occur "over the next few weeks".

Some of the information included on a Timeline - which is for profiles only and not corporate pages - can include when a user became a 'fan' of a business's Facebook page, as well as any interaction between themselves and a brand.

This is why it is important for companies to have a wide-reaching and positive presence on the social media website, to increase their chances of showing up on people's new profiles.

For example, by clicking on a year, Facebook users can see what things a company they are fans of got up to, such as product launches and achievements.

Individuals can launch the Timeline feature at any point before the automatic introduction, as well as during the seven-day review period.

Facebook recently revealed the Pinterest app is now available for its Timeline, which is an interesting tool that brands can use to extend their presence across the social media website.

Companies can engage their customers by pinning content to their boards that their audience would find interesting, as well as updating their space as events happen, such as new stock arriving or promotions.
